RUTH JOYAL

Born and raised in Montreal, Ruth joined Cavalia in 2008 with substantial performing credentials. An acrobat and aerialist with Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Eloize and Exos, among others, she also acted as artistic coordinator and performed as stuntwoman for movies such as “The Aviator”. The diversity of her experiences allows her to integrate routines skillfully, whether they are on the ground, or in the air; her specialty.

Libertad, the only performance without any equine star, holds a special significance for Ruth. Together with Maxim Panteleenko, they were invited to adapt the number, adding several “duos”, and harmonizing the dance and aerial routine in order to create a sweeping aerial dance.

What touches her most in Cavalia is the magical way in which equestrian and acrobatic arts are combined. Having never worked with horses before, she continues to familiarize herself with them. She admits finding their energy extremely beneficial, whether it’s on stage during a performance, or behind the scenes. “Looking after a horse is a special gift that’s given to us.” Before each show, Ruth takes care of Choice, her favorite horse. She washes him, braids his hair and makes sure he’s ready for his performance.
